Song 12 – A song from a band you hate... – ‘Rollin’ – Limp Bizkits
Limp Bizkit's Fred Durst |
I don’t really want to write much about this category. There are lots of hateful and contemptible acts committed in the world each day, but not many of them are committed in recording studios. And there are plenty of articles on the internet expressing hate towards subjects that just aren’t worthy of that level of engagement. So this isn’t really a band I hate, I don’t know enough about them.
Limp Bizkit were the flag bearer for ‘nu-metal’ or ‘sports metal’ in the late 1990’s. It was a sort of hybrid of rap and grunge, taking the worst of both worlds. It took the element of misogyny and homophobia from some hip-hip, without taking the fun, the articulacy and the political savvy. It took the self pity and victim mentality from grunge and then turned that anger into an adolescent nihilism and aggressive petulance.
There’s so much music made that’s worth hearing. Why waste time listening to this. Life’s too short.
